3D Demo System for Ternary Phase Diagrams
1. Phase diagrams in this system
This database system displays phase diagrams of ternary systems such as Fe-Cr-Ni, etc.
In a two-dimensional (2D) phase diagram, an isothermal section of a ternary systemfs phase diagram
calculated with thermodynamic software Thermo-Calc is displayed.
In a three-dimensional (3D) phase diagram, based on multiple calculated isothermal sections,
phase boundaries are shown as three-dimensional surfaces taking the vertical axis temperature.
2. Main menu
Ternary systems whose phase diagrams are possible to be displayed are listed.
Please click the name of the ternary system which you want,
then the phase diagram will be displayed.
3. Display window of phase diagram
The display window of phase diagrams is divided into two frames.
The left one is an operating panel, on which you may operate as
selecting to show a 3D phase diagram or a 2D phase diagram, and so on.
The right frame displays 3D phase diagrams.
The 2D phase diagrams are displayed in a separate window.
ĽAbout operating panel
The operating panel is composed of three parts.
1) 3D control panel
Display the phase boundary of a selected phase three-dimensionally.
Select a phase form the list of [Select phase (from x phase(s))] and click the button of g3Dh.
2) 2D control panel
Display the phases at a selected temperature two-dimensionally.
Select a temperature from the list of [Select temp. (Cerusius) (from xx sets of temp.)], and click the button of g2Dh.
3) 2D+3D control panel
Display both of the above.
Select a temperature from the list of [Select temp. (Cerusius) (from xx sets of temp.)]
and a phase form the list of [Select phase (from x phase(s))], then click the button of g2D+3Dh.
ĽAbout three-dimensional display
Display the boundary of a selected single phase, two-phase region or three-phase region.
Setting the three elements of the ternary system on three vertexes of the triangle
and taking the vertical axis temperature, the yellow surface shows the phase boundary.
Operation:
The data are in format of VRML Ver1.0. A VRML viewer is necessary to display.
Please refer to the manual of each viewer to learn how to install and operate.
ĽAbout two-dimensional display
Display the two-dimensional phase diagram at a selected temperature in a new window.
The three elements of the ternary system are set on vertexes of the triangle,
and the values on sides are percentages of the elements.
Operation:
Java applets are used to display the phase diagram.
Please set your browser to be able to run Java applets.
When you click one of the phases listed on the right side of the display window,
its phase boundary turns green, so that you can identify its position.
ĽAbout 2D+3D display
Display the two-dimensional and three-dimensional phase diagrams simultaneously.
The display of 2D and 3D phase diagrams is almost same as that described above,
except that in the 3D phase diagram, in order to indicate the position of
the isothermal section displayed in the 2D phase diagram, it is shown as a green triangle.
